Spotify and Apple Music — paying for both?

A plain-English look at the overlap in your music streaming services, and how to decide which one to keep.
Spotify PremiumApple Music

The short answer

Bottom line: You almost never need two music subscriptions. The big platforms offer basically the same enormous library at the same price; a second one is pure duplicate spend unless one is subsidized (e.g. free with a credit card).

What's actually different

Spotify is the most feature-complete (podcasts, audiobooks, social, hi-res). Apple Music has lossless and spatial audio included and tighter Apple-device integration. Pick the one that fits your devices and cancel the other.

Which one to keep

Keep the one with your playlists and library, and cancel the duplicate. If a credit-card perk covers one for free, keep that one and drop the paid one.
